BU Wei
This paper discusses the values of raising awareness among media personnel in gender advocacy. 13 Gender and City Community Safety: Women's Participation in "Lower Class Politics"
')" href="#"> GUO Xia-juan
This paper examines the historical roles of women in city community building and safety in China based on empirical evidence from both historical and contemporary periods. It suggests that women's participation in city community safety historically correlated with the rise of "community building" in China. When ordinary women became participants in upholding community safety, they actually occupied a core position in the power structure of community governance. With their enthusiasm and care, they have long shouldered the tasks of upholding community safety and contributed significantly to national safety as well as the world safety. This proves that women, who have long lived a "private family," are able to participate in the cause of building public safety.

22 Why do Women and Men for or against Same Age Retirement? ——Empirical Study of the Factors Influencing Retirement Age Choices
LIU Bo-hong1 GUO Li2 HAO Rui3
The rule of retirement age in China allows a difference between 5 to 10 years in retirement age based on sex and status. The goal of achieving "Same retirement age between women and men," which has become a focus in the contemporary Chinese women's movement and the cause of human rights protection, has been a subject of debate among policy makers, academia and women themselves in the Chinese society. What have made people of different occupation, sex, and status choose to accept or reject "the same age retirement"? This paper discusses the findings of empirical research of those who are employed based on their sexes, social groups and different areas in order to identify complex factors that influence their choice of retirement age, including individual preference, family, work unit, economic and social perceptions. It also hopes to recommend solutions that are focused, differentiated and ordered to ending the compulsory requirement of gender-based differential retirement age.

39 Analysis on Social Exclusion and its Influence on Senior Female Personnel——Based on Investigation in Fujian Province
XU Yan-hui , XIONG Huan
This paper uses the 2010 survey data of senior women personnel in Fujian Province to analyze the relationship between social exclusion and factors such as personal characteristics and human capital acquired by senior female personnel. Regression analysis results show that factors such as age, marital status, the nature of units, position, political affiliation, personal annual income, education, working years, training, housework time, and traditional gender awareness have great influence, though varying in degrees, on social exclusion of senior female personnel. Therefore, in order to solve the problem of social exclusion of senior female personnel, there is a need for a comprehensive understanding of all the factors.

48 Gender Study on the Status and Role of Women in Scientific Experiments
SONG Lin
This article analyzes women's work in science, and finds that there exists obvious gender division of labor: women's work is mostly focused on the domain of scientific experiments. This paper combines feminist theory and the philosophy of scientific experiment in analysis of gender division in science and concludes that power politics and gender politics are embedded and should be responsible for the depreciation of women's contribution to scientific experiment research.

54 Female Township Cadres' Social Capital——A Case Study of the C City of Hunan Province
LIAO Yi-ni NIE Jian-liang
This paper discusses a qualitative study of interviews with 22 female township cadres in the C city of Hunan province, whose findings show that the start-up position of female township cadres has a greater impact on their access to social capital. Especially, while the possession of endowed resources decides the differences in female township cadres' career advancement, the influence of attained resources is expanding. The mobilization of connections based social networks can bridge distance: for example, horizontal networks affect female township cadres' emotional support, while vertical networks may not be as effective as the mobilization of social capital. Female township cadres in disadvantaged positions are overall in a weaker position in the use of social capital and personal development. The study also found that female township cadres are still generally affected by the worries of "being the subject of suspicion".

69 Women in Water Construction Movements in the 1950s and 60s: Hui Women Reservoir in Hui'an County, Fujian Province
YANG Qi-fu, WANG Wei-wei
Many women participated in the water construction movements in the 1950s and 60s. "Hui Women's Reservoir" that was built by women construction workers drafted among nearby villages attracted wide public attention. Throughout the construction of the "Hui Women's Reservoir" women were mobilized to achieve titles as model workers and to win awards in contests for best work performance achievers and motivated to adopt a new women's image with aspirations for "women's liberation" and "equality between men and women." However, this notion of women's liberation did not come from women and also was based on a misunderstanding of women's issues equal to class issues and an inspiration for women to follow men's images. Although this way of thinking was suited to the political climate at the time, it lacked due attention to women as an entity and minimized the goal of achieving equality between men and women.

76 Contrast between Public Opinion Rising and Ending in Defeat: Guangdong Women's Right to Political Participation in 1921
FU Jin-zhu
Women in Guangdong in 1921 took lead in the second movement of Women's Right to Political Participation in the Chinese Republican Era. During the movement, women had widespread Public opinion support and the support of revolutionary parties. To improve political participation, women took part in the Parliamentary debates at the provincial level. These women together with their demand for the right to political participation were ultimately defeated. This paper suggests that on the one hand most of the provincial representatives held conservative ideas about Women's Political Participation, and on the other hand the women themselves had diverse emotional expressions which thus weakened their tactics.

91 Thoughts on Constructing "Seventeen-Years" Chinese History of Women's Literature
')" href="#"> SONG Sheng-quan
The construction of "seventeen-years" Chinese history of women's literature has many deficiencies. Historians may be short on presenting a scientific recognition of the dynamics of its development largely because of old-fashioned outlook, which has perhaps led to narrow-minded knowledge of history, and shortage of historical sources. Those who are studying the "seventeen-years" history of women's literature should first be aware of the editions of a literary work. "Collecting the lost works" is also important. One of the most effective methods is introducing a comparative study of the texts written by women and men from a gender perspective. This study should neither be a judgment of artistic value alone nor an evaluation of a piece of literary work only by its gender consciousness. It is best to combine the two as objectively as possible. This is a suitable scholarly choice, not only because it helps uphold forward-looking outlooks and cultural perspectives, but also because it is practical and with a stronger chance of achievement.

96 Feminist Language Policy in Germany by Way of Gender Mainstreaming
ZHANG Zhi, , KONG De-ming
With the rise of women's consciousness throughout feminist campaign, there has been increasing a feminist demand for gender mainstreaming and ending unjust treatment of women in German language, particularly by way of the generic use of masculine appellation. Feminist claim for equal linguistic rights as that of men has certainly influenced German language policy and ultimately led to the promulgation of a series of legislations and regulations, which stipulate how to address women indiscriminately. New appellations of profession, position and title are introduced to achieve gender equality in German language. The visibility of women is increased clearly in legal and administrative writings as well as in mass media.
