Abstract:A need for elderly care increasingly stands out in China where the population is aging and the number of seniors rises. At the moment, elderly care is mostly provided by relatives, especially female family relatives. Thus, elderly care is a gendered topic and has strong policy implications. A review of existing literature has revealed that current policies lack a gender perspective as they emphasize family's responsibilities for elderly care more than social support for caregivers of elderly care. This paper discusses the need for policy support for female caregivers of elderly domestics care and recognizes the challenges and problems faced by female caregivers of elderly care. It identifies the reasons why there is limited social support for caregivers of elderly domestic care and proposes ways to promote gender equality in related public policy.
