Abstract:Exploration of sexual orientation, women's autonomy and rights, men's gender predicament and anxiety, as well as the relationship between the two sexes are some of the areas on which A. S. Byatt's fiction expends. While paying close attention to gender issues confronted by each individual at different historical stages, Byatt records faithfully the contemporary social and historical changes in Great Britain.
