Abstract:Women's education changed its purpose, content and value orientations significantly from the earlier to the later period of Tang Dynasty. Changes in purpose were reflected in the spread of education from upper to middle and lower classes of women, while the content of education changed from earlier broader learning emphasizing artistic skills and knowledge to latter narrower focus on women's virtue and related rules of rites. Further changes occurred in the value orientations from the previous emphasis on filial piety to women's fathers to that to their husbands.
