| Effects of Social Support Networks on the Mental Health of Rural Women Left at Home in the Northwest Region: A Survey from Gansu Province |

Abstract This paper examines the effects of social support networks on the mental health of rural women left at home in the northwest region. Based on a sample survey of 311 rural women left at home in Gansu Province and the application of social support network measurement and the SCL-90 scale in its analysis, the results show that: the social support networks of rural women left at home in the sample region are smaller in scale, but have stronger ties among network members, and are less heterogeneous but of high convergence; the level of mental health of rural women left at home in the northwest region is significantly lower than the national average level; the level of mental health of rural women left at home in the northwest region is inversely related to the scale as well as the het erogeneity and convergence of their social support networks.
