Abstract This paper examines the phenomenon where parents who migrated to other areas while leaving their daughters behind in the countryside have likely disregarded their responsibilities to safeguard these girls' rights to designated residence, education, social contacts and interaction. It proposes that in future amendments of the Marriage Law, right to parental care should be defined and detailed. In the section of the Civil Code on Family Provisions, there should be clear stipulation of the right to parental care and the system of guardianship and the differences between the two in order to establish needed institutional support to the protection of the rights of girls left behind in the countryside.
